Incoming Inspections

Incoming inspection of an industrial gearbox

The incoming inspection for rolling element bearings consists of a visual inspection and measurements, both of which are generally non-destructive. Measurements should be taken of not only the exterior dimensions according to e.g. DIN 620, but also of the raceways, where the roundness, roughness, and crowning must be inspected. The latter has a significant influence on local stress behavior in the contact and is therefore relevant for the expected lifetime. Material inspection is an additional, destructive inspection option.

For gearboxes, the incoming inspection consists primarily of an inspection with endoscopy. In conjunction with the installation of the gearbox, one can also inspect the wear pattern with a special dye or perform vibration measurements. The incoming inspection may be done at either the factory or at the installation location.
